Lofoten Art Quarter - Artists Recidency; English short version:
Lofoten is the most wild and beautiful part of Norway. The mountains are among
the oldest in the world. Lofoten has, therefore, always held a special
attraction for artists.
It has been said of Lofoten that you'll either turn away
from it and go home right away, or forever be turning towards it!
For some, the
experience is too strong. But most of us want more, and cannot seem to get
enough.
In this short English translation, you'll find the most important information; a few words about the place, the prices and contact information.
Lofoten Art Quarter was once a home for the elderly. Now, locals and visiting artists from around the world can come to live and work in its renovated guest studios.
The Art Quarter is located in the scenic surroundings of Leknes, Vestvågøy, right in the middle of Lofoten. It is a one-hour drive from Svolvær, Lofoten's biggest town, and a one-hour drive from Å, the town where the highway ends.
The center of Leknes town is 3 km from the Art Quarter. Those who are up for it can walk or bike. Otherwise, daily buses run from the Art Quarter to Stamsund or Leknes. The bus station is right outside the Art Quarter door. It is additionally possible to rent a local car.
In Leknes you'll find all sorts of shops, cafes, restaurants, and wine and spirit stores. The airport is a 10-minute drive away.
The town of Stamsund can be reached by car in 15 minutes, and offers two professional theaters, a pub, rental waterside cabins, a hotel, galleries and a port for the Norwegian shoreline cruise ship, the Hurtigruten.
The Lofoten Art Quarter currently has 2 available studios and 3 bedrooms available for rent. A separate neighboring house offers 4 apartments: two of these are currently sold to artists, one is permanently leased to an artist, and one fully equipped apartment may be rented out to artists at affordable prices for short or long-term stays.
Our localities are currently under construction. The bedrooms and studios are newly renovated. Several other rooms can be furnished if necessary.
We have a digital darkroom with large-format photo printing capability, which can be used by our guests at a very reasonable price.
